Understanding how RINVOQ (upadacitinib) works

How does RINVOQ work?

RINVOQ is a once-daily tablet that helps reduce the inflammation that can cause the symptoms associated with your Crohn's disease (CD).1 RINVOQ is a type of medicine called a Janus kinase inhibitor, which means it works by lowering the activity of an enzyme (protein) called ‘Janus kinase’ (JAK). JAK creates signals in the body’s immune system that lead to inflammation. RINVOQ can block this from happening.1

By blocking JAK, RINVOQ can help to reduce inflammation that causes the symptoms associated with your CD, including belly pain, fatigue and bowel-related symptoms.1

Not everyone will respond the same way to a medication, speak with your doctor to find out what you can expect from your treatment. RINVOQ supresses the immune system, so taking RINVOQ may increase your chance of getting an infection.1,2 Please see the safety information page on this website for more information.

Can RINVOQ help with managing belly pain and other symptoms?

Taking RINVOQ can improve symptoms including belly pain, the need to rush to the toilet, as well as the number of times you need to go to the toilet. Once starting your RINVOQ treatment, you may even notice an improvement in your ability to do normal daily activities, your symptoms of tiredness and your quality of life as it relates to your health.1

RINVOQ is indicated for the treatment of adults with moderately to severely active Crohn's disease.2
